We will hold a certification class in Newport, Oregon, August 17th, 2024. Check at Ossies Surf Shop for details.

NSSIA currently holds both classroom and online certification classes. The classes are available at your location if there are 5 or more instructors to be certified. If students have not completed their self-study review, the first day will concentrate on the manual and self study guide while the second day will be the formal classes and exams. Coaching or surf dog certification classes require additional days. Those already certified can attend the classes again at no cost. We still maintain the online certification program for individuals. The certification is still available for those who wish to attend the class at our Chesapeake Beach, Maryland headquarters. For more information, contact Chairman Bruce Gabrielson directly. We also often teach the coaching certification class during surf EXPO.

You can become provisionally apprentice certified with no previous history of giving lessons by only completing the self study. This level is only good for one year. Full instructor certification requires either classroom attendance and exam, or both the online class and the self study. Each has an examinaton.
.
To be eligible to attend instructor and above level on-line certification courses, instructors must have completed their self study course and submitted it prior to enrolling in the online class. Higher level certifications require an additional self study training program.
